Dr. James began his higher education at Ohio University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989. His early commitment to medicine was evident through his active participation in tutoring chemistry and physics and his volunteer work in the Orthopedics department, which provided him with a practical introduction to medical care. Following his undergraduate education, he pursued further medical training at Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1991. He continued his medical journey at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine. While at Hahnemann, Dr. Blake was deeply involved in tutoring minority students in anatomy and physiology, further demonstrating his commitment to educational mentorship. Dr. James's advanced medical training included a challenging internship in ENT and general surgery at the Mayo Clinic from 1994 to 1996. He subsequently completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he excelled as Chief Resident from 1996 to 1999. This period was crucial in developing his skills in clinical leadership and complex patient care. In 1999, Dr. James Blake began working as an emergency department physician at Keightly and Parsley P.S.C., a role he held until 2011. He then transitioned to Team Health, serving in the Emergency Medicine Department at Kentucky One Hospitals. His tenure there is noted for his clinical excellence and compassionate approach to patient care. Dr. Blake took on the role of Medical Director at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in 2018, where he managed the ER Trauma Unit, Stroke Unit, and Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
